Introduction
The purpose of this project was for our group to create an experiment than explains how our body maintain homeostasis in organ systems. For our project, we chose how our body maintain homeostasis in our breathing rate when exercising.
Concepts
- Homeostasis: is the body´s ability to maintain a constant internal environment in response to external changes.
- Respiratory Systems: A series of organs that are responsible for the intake of oxygen and the explosion of CO2 in the body
- Breathing Rate: The number of breaths you take in a minute.
- Negative Feedback Loop: Body moves closer to homeostasis
- Positive Feed back Loop: Body amplified and move away from homeostasis
- Scientific Method: A method of finding information through 8 steps
- Make observation: Ask questions about what your experimenting on
- Research: Search for information to answer your questions
- Form a hypothesis: Form an educated guess on your question
- Plan experiments: Create a procedure that will test your hypothesis
- Do experiment: Go through experiment
- Analyze Data: Interpret data collected and find any patterns
- Conclusion: Summary the experiments results and research. Answers your hypothesis
- Share Results: Shares your findings
Our Project
Reflection
This project was very different from past projects we have worked on. Instead of having the teacher assign a lab, we had to create our own. The freedom to create our own lab was a nice change. However, this freedom meant that we were responsible for every part of the lab which was a challenge. Despite this our team worked well. Through out the project the there was were two things I improved on as a team member. First was communication, during the project I would check in with my team mates to know what they were working and how much they have completed of a section. Additionally, I would check in with my team mates before making any important decisions and tell them what exactly I was planning to add or change. Second was leadership, during the project I shared a lot my ideas, but also create a discussion about said ideas with my peers so everyone´s opinion was shared. However during the project there were a couple of things I could have done better. First, was being on task. Even though I was on task most the time I got side tracked a couple of times and talked with other table groups. Second, was my work ethic. Even though I would say I did I fine job on the parts I worked on. I would say they could of had more research done on them and have better working. In the end though your presentation turned out fine and my teammates were pleasant to work with.
